From Entrepreneurial Hustle to Strategic Growth

I believe people are born entrepreneurs. My journey began with a paper route at 9 years old and progressed to cutting lawns at 12, even though I could barely move the mower, all the way through college.

One of the best pieces of advice I received was from my mentor when I was 20. Bill was a small business owner in his mid-forties and told me, “You can work for someone and get 50% of the headache and 50% of the reward; or work for yourself and get 100% of the headache and 100% of the reward.” I never forgot that advice. I hated being told to “slow down” at every company I worked for.​

My Entrepreneurial Journey

My passion for entrepreneurship truly ignited with my landscaping business. Though I often wonder if I should have bypassed college (I earned a degree in Finance from Michigan State University, 825 miles from home), those early years of knocking on doors, delivering on-the-spot estimates, and converting 1 out of every 200 estimates into a $1,000-per-year client taught me invaluable lessons.

That experience—turning a 1% success rate into meaningful revenue—became the foundation of my entrepreneurial mindset: work, fail, learn, pivot, and repeat. It’s the same approach I bring to my clients today: identify the KPIs, find the bottlenecks, fix them, and then move on to the next challenge.

Over the years, I’ve owned five businesses—experiencing two failures, two successes, and one still in progress—and hosted a weekly financial radio show.

In my 30+ years as an entrepreneur and from learning from industry heavyweights, I’ve:

  • Built a 7-figure business from the ground up.

  • Built two 6-figure businesses from the ground up.

  • Turned around a cash-stressed 7-figure business.

  • Quickly failed and moved on from two businesses.

The Birth of Deliberate Achievement

I began my career as an investment accountant for State Street Bank, always enjoying working with numbers. Later, I became a financial data mining analyst at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), where I gained expertise in data mining and reporting. This experience was crucial when I co-founded an eCommerce business. Through data-driven decision-making, we saw significant growth. Over 16 years, I learned invaluable lessons in cash management and business growth, which inspired me to create Deliberate Achievement.
